BIOGRAPHY OF DR. OYAMAKIN

Samuel Oluwafemi Oyamakin holds Bachelor's, Master's and PhD degrees in Statistics from University of Ibadan. He is a Fellow, Graduate Statistician, Chartered Statistician and a Chartered Scientist of the Royal Statistical Society, United Kingdom. He is also a member of Nigeria Statistical Association, Professional Statisticians' Society of Nigeria, International Biometric Society, Nigeria Mathematical Society and International Statistical Institute (ISI), among others. He is an applied statistician interested in the development of statistical models for complex biological systems and its application to problems in science and industry. He is also a statistics educator interested in understanding how statistical concepts are best communicated. He is currently the Master's degree coordinator and a lecturer in the Department of Statistics, University of Ibadan with passion for teaching and conducting research in statistics utilization, modeling and practice. He has also collaborated with researchers from other disciplines like Medicine, Forestry and Sociology within and outside the country. He was among the delegates invited by UNDP (REDD+) to advance knowledge in climate change modeling. He was a participant in the WHO/TDR Programme on Implementation Science. He is a Mentee of the Working Group providing technical content on projects and initiatives at the University of Ibadan Research Foundation and a

member/Mentee on the Ibadan Partnership on the Africa Research on Implementation Sciences and Education (ARISE) project hosted in Tanzania and also the China-Harvard African Network (CHAN) project at the University of Ibadan. He was one of the two ISI Ambassadors selected to attend the International Biometric Conference in Barcelona, Spain. Among his numerous skills are, teaching of statistics courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels (especially Theories of Demography, Probability, Biometry & Applied Statistics), Research/proposals writing in Forestry, Agriculture and Public Health studies, Designing, Collecting, Organizing, Conducting and Analysing demographic survey/field data, Writing and presenting research reports. He is proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.), E-views, SPSS, MINITAB, STATA, R, MATLAB and PYTHON. He has been a facilitator at several training programmes like UI-LISA Training/Workshop on Logistics Regression using R, Statistical Workshop and Training on the Use of SPSS, Microsoft Excel & SPSS training for Department of Anatomy Staff of the University of Ibadan, Nigeria and Monitoring and Evaluation (STATA) Workshop by University of Ibadan Research Foundation (UI-RF) etc. Dr Oyamakin recently became a fellow of the Partnership for African Social and Governance Research (PASGR), which qualified him as one of the Pedagogical Leaders in Africa. Alternative Nonlinear Growth Models for Biological Processes

The work modified the source differential forms of the Malthusian perspective and its variants and came up with five new growth models as alternative to the existing Exponential, Monomolecular, Gompertz, Richards and Von Bertalanffy growth models using Hyperbolic sine function. The developed models provided boundedness for the exponetial growth model and improved the growth processes in the other models through the allometry parameter that controls the shape of the growth curve. Data from different sources were used to validate the effectiveness of the developed model so as to determine its suitability and validity. Furthermore, the developed models along with the existing ones were subjected to violation of assumptions so as to test how robust they are to outliers or shocks. At various degree of contamination of outliers ranging from 50%, 100% and 500% of the highest and lowest values were considered and the developed models demonstrated a better ability to accommodate shocks over the existing ones. Hence, I recommend usage of our developed models when study that requires the use of growth models is being carried out.
